From Kenn's Drawing Board: Saddle-billed Stork

Kenn Writes:

Random sketchbook: Saddle-billed Stork

These huge storks are widespread in Africa, but seem to be very uncommon everywhere. I'd seen them before, but until I started sketching a pair, I hadn't realized that the sexes differ: females have yellow eyes; males have dark eyes and small yellow wattles on the chin. This bird was hard to sketch because its big head and huge bill seem out of proportion to its thin neck, and subconsciously I kept trying to "normalize" its shape rather than drawing it as it really appears in life.
