South Africa Trip, Day 1: Johannesburg

Kimberly Writes: We arrived at our hotel in Johannesburg feeling pretty wiped out after the 11-hour flight from Heathrow. So what did we do? We went out looking for birds, of course!

The hotel we're staying at has enough habitat that it's actually an eBird hotspot, so we found some really wonderful birds without having to leave the grounds. The pictures aren't great, but I wanted to share them anyway.

Tomorrow, a short flight will take us to the area near Kruger National Park. Where...GIRAFFES!

Male and Female Cape Sparrow
Common Fiscal, a cool shrike in the same genus as Loggerhead and Northern Shrike
Laughing Dove
Blacksmith Lapwing
Southern Red Bishops and Laughing Doves
Southern Masked Weaver
